Register FREE Journal of Nanoscience Letters 2012, 2: 8 Review Article Review on the analytical models describing melting at the nanoscale G. Guisbiers UCL, Institute of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering, 2 Place Sainte Barbe, B-1348 Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium Abstract It is well established that melting temperature is size-dependent. Melting point depression of nanostructures is generally expected when size reduces while superheating can be observed for embedded structures. We reviewed the melting models reported in the literature since the 19th century until now. Keywords Melting; Size effect; Thermodynamics; Nano-materials; Phase transition
