Volume 2, Issue 3 (2011) pp. 105-132 Review Article A general overview of knee outcome measures in common use LL Negrin, V Vécsei Department of Trauma Surgery, Medical University of Vienna, Austria Abstract One of the significant challenges in the use of knee outcome measures is which one to use in which instance because similar classification schemes applied to the same patient may provide different results. As the choice of the classification scheme is crucial for adequate individual outcome evaluation and as no gold standard exists our review had two aims: (1) detecting common knee scores, rating systems and activity scales and assessing their frequency by a literature search; (2) abstracting them in the paper to enable clinicians and researchers a preliminary selection before reviewing complete questionnaires in order to identify the appropriate system for their investigations. Analyzing 11512 studies, we detected 39 knee classification schemes which have been used 2947-times altogether. Keywords Outcome measures; Scores; Classification schemes; Rating systems; Frequency
