G. Kochur Rostov State Transport University, 2 Narodnogo Opolcheniya, Rostov-na-Donu, Russia, 344038 Abstract Simple method of parameterization for the Bethe formula for electron-impact excitation/ionization processes cross sections is suggested. The parameterization method is based on introducing explicitly the energies of thresholds for respective electron-impact processes. Additional term accounting for core relaxation in the process of inner-shell vacancy creation is introduced in the formula. Cross sections for electron-impact excitations of oxygen atom calculated with the modified formula are compared with those calculated in first Born approximation with Pauli-Fock wave functions. It is shown that the modified Bethe formula gives an acceptable accuracy even near thresholds. Keywords Bethe formula; Electron-impact excitation/ionization
