Abstract |
|
|
Selectivity behavior of a coumarin derivative 6-bromo-3-(2-methyl-2,3-dihydrobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-2H-chromen-2-one (L) was studied by UV-Vis. Spectroscopy. It was found that L is able to form a selective complex with Cu(II) in comparsion with other common metal ions. Thus, it can be used as a suitable ionophore in an ion selective electrode (ISE) for determination of Cu(II). The electrodes based on L exhibited a Nernstian slope of 28.6±0.2 mV per decade over a wide concentration range (5.0×10-6 to 1×10-2 mol L-1), with a limit of detection of 3.5×10-6 mol L-1. The electrode response time was about 15 s; they showed good reproducibility for at least 30 days. The sensor showed a good selectivity for Cu(II) ions over a wide variety of other metal ions. Finally, it was successfully used for analysis of copper content of some wastewater samples.
