Abstract |
|
|
The ability of newly synthesized anionic surfactants based on cottonseed oil to protect carbon steel in CO2-saturated solutions was investigated using linear polarization corrosion rate, weight loss and surface tension measurements. The experimental results showed that these inhibitors revealed a very good corrosion inhibition even at low concentrations. The percentage inhibition efficiency (IE %) increases by increasing the inhibitor concentration. The inhibition process was attributed to the formation of an adsorbed film on the metal surface that protects the metal against corrosive agents. Adsorption of the inhibitors on the carbon steel surface was found to obey Langmuir’s adsorption isotherm. The change in free energy values indicates that the adsorption is chemical. The protective film formation on metal surface is investigated by means of FTIR.
